How does it work?
For an hour once per week, I will interview you either on the phone or Zoom and record the calls. I’ll send regular review copies for you to read, revise, and approve. You might not remember events in order but don’t be concerned. As the writing progresses, I’ll revise, and rearrange as needed.
Who is the interviewer and ghost writer?
That’s me! Marcia Breece. As the interviewer and ghost writer, I have the advantage of hearing the authors “voice” ensuring that the memoir reflects the authors personality.
How would a reader know I didn’t write my own memoir?
Only if you told them! The ghost writer’s name does not appear anywhere on the cover or the interior. My customer remain completely confidential.
What if I need a different timeline?
We can modify the timeframe to suit your requirements, but weekly interviews are ideal. Long delays interfere with the momentum and may result in re-start fees. It’s best not to start until you have the time to devote to the project.
How do I know what’s happening?
I will send regular content reviews to keep the author (that’s you) advised of the progress. You and I will discuss the content in our meetings.
Can I buy more books?
Of course! The price is based on printing and shipping charges, page count, number of images and cover requirements.
What if my interview results in a longer book?
I’m happy to keep writing, but additional fees will apply. You aren’t locked in to one of the three packages.
Can I buy a package for someone else?
Sure! I’m happy to issue a gift certificate. You can pay the deposit at the time of purchase, and we’ll work out the payment schedule when the recipient gets started. This is a wonderful way to get your parents or grandparents to tell their story. It’s easier for some people to talk to a stranger.
What does the final book look like?
I use a digital printer to produce a high-quality, professional-looking paperback with either a glossy or matt cover (your choice). I can hire an offset press, however, the cost is quite a bit higher/book and short runs are not available (usually a minimum 200 books).
What if I don’t remember correctly?
Your story reflects how you remember certain events, and the book is not intended for the public. However if you want, I’m happy to do some fact checking. Of course, additional charges will apply.
Can other material be included?
I’m happy to incorporate your past work or writing for an extra fee. Please let me know as soon as possible if you have extra material other than images you want to include.
How long are the interviews?
I plan for an hour but if we’re having a great session, I’m happy to extent to 90 minutes.
How many people can be included in the interview?
I prefer interviewing one person at a time. We can discuss special needs.
What is the interview schedule?
Together we will arrange the weekly schedule.
How long does it take to complete the project?
The timeline is based on the purchased package,
Basic Package 6 to 8 months
Prime Package 8 to 10
Deluxe Package 10 to 12 (or more) months
Who edits the manuscript before printing?
I hire a professional editor to check grammar, spelling, typos, inconsistencies and structure.
What is the age limit?
I welcome anyone who wants to tell their story.
Who owns the copyright?
Once the book is complete and work is paid in full, you, the author, own the copyright. The content belongs to you. You are the author, and responsible for any libel, breach of privacy, copyright infringement or similar risks. I hold no responsibility for the content.
Who can read my book?
That’s totally up to you. I will not share your memoir with anyone unless you specify a friend or family member. I send the final copies to you and you can distribute as you please.
What If I decide to publish?
I’m happy to upload your book to Amazon.
What if I don’t like the ghost writer’s writing style?
I make every effort to maintain the author’s voice based on the interviews. I’m happy to make revisions as required to keep you delighted.
Can I cancel in the middle of the project?
I offer a 14-day money-back guarantee from the date of purchase, minus $50/hours spent. Once we get started, you can cancel at any time with one month’s notice in writing. No refunds are available at this point. the progress to date belongs to you.
